BRIEFLY ABOUT THE LOCATION
The lake of Lugano lies in the South-East of Switzerland, at the border between Italy and Switzerland. The surface elevation gets to 272 m.Although the lake is not large, it has attracted us with its rich diversity, articulation and an interesting shape, which has been created thanks to the collision of two glaciers. The shore of the lake is famous for its mountains and tourist destinations like Monte Bré (925m), San Salvatore (912m) World Heritage Site Monte San Giorgio (1,097 m), and Monte Generoso (1701m) the place of our take off.
THE COURSE
To maximize your safety, the SIF course exercises are held above the water. You’ll put on a life jacket and have a transmitter to be in touch with the instructor. Moreover, there will be a life boat prompt during the whole training. As the course specialty, you can try opening the rescue parachute and landing with it’s help to feel what it is like and carry about a deeper confidence into your gear.
Meeting point:
We’re meeting up in the evening, the day before the course starts, at the opening briefing in the camping Paradiso, located in Melano, on the shores of the Lake of Lugano.
First, we’ll assist you in arranging your hide on the suspension device and will check the functionality of your rescue parachutes. Then we will distribute to each of you a transmitter and a life jacket – tools that should accompany you on every flight during the course.
Monte Generoso, our take-off point, lies in 1701 m. You can reach 700 m over the water level once you’re above the Lake of Lugano. During a day you can catch up with three to four rides to Monte Generoso.
You’ll be guided by the instructor through the transmitter and filmed by an operator during your exercises above the lake.
The training starts with easy figures for a better understanding and accustoming to the parachute. We’ll move on more complex exercises gradually and will have an individual approach to each of you. The exercise structure is adapted to one’s abilities during the course.
Landing occurs directly into the camping, near our tents and close to the railway-station. This facilitates a maximum time usage.
The quantity of flights and exercises depends on each of the pilots. For those who demand even more sophisticated exercises, there is the possibility to learn something from our acrobatic program.
There will be a briefing every evening, where pilots’ improvements, mistakes and instructor’s guides are summed up and discusses. Moreover, for a better comprehension all the performed exercises during the day will be projected on the wall and the practical part of the course will be completed by the theory.
You also have the possibility to try opening and landing with the help of the rescue parachute at the end of the course. This will allow you to bring yourself to trial safely and see your ability to use in a right way the rescue parachute in case of emergency.
The fourth and the last day of the course is let to free flying, parachute drying and packing and in case of unfavorable weather – a reserved tutorial day.
In the event of unfavorable weather or for a non-flying company there are beautiful tourist attractions on the site like Melide or the city of Lugano.
