Bulgaria Open

Coming by plane from Vienna to Sofia we were very surprised, how looks new capital city after one year influence by EU. The airport hall and bus station have new design, also typical Bulgarian toilets were changed. The weather was not nice for flying, so this training day we used for relax, registration and open ceremony. Friday was also rainy, so Organization prepared for all of us trip to the big cave or free flying.

During all week the weather start is great and we had two opportunities where to take off. One was small hill in flatlands called Pastrina and other Vraca mountains. Finally we flow 3 valid tasks with different way. First task was just after passing thunderstorms, flying in the evening around 20 km. Second task was canceled just because of side wind. Third task follow the ridge and finished in the flatlands. High cloud base, light side wind, nice thermal and great view brings excellent experiences. It was not so easy, but was possible to climb even from 50 m above ground. The hardest point was at beginning, after start point, because the valley was in shadow and for pilots were hard job to climb up. Also in the end, last 10 km were in front of wind and I made Goal only 100 m above it. After 75 long tasks were 4 pilots in goal. Forth task we flow again from Pastrina, but with excellent weather, high cloud base, mostly in flatlands and crossing valley. Only 2 pilots in the goal, but everyone enjoy a lot. So the winners of the Bulgaria Open were:

1. Orlin Dimov 3. Jasen Savov 4. Renáta Kuhnová

What can I say about Bulgaria? Only all the best!!! You have to come, stay and see the beautiful nature, nice and friendly people, even when you are landing in their poor villages. A lot of horses eating grass everywhere, dogs, good and cheep food and many other opportunities to enjoy your time here. Thanks to organizator!!!
