EUROPIAN CHAMPIONSHIP APTENAU –  AUSTRIA (23.5. – 5.6.2010)

In the end of May we take place in European Championship in Austria Alps close Salzburk. This time Czech Team have six places, twoo woman Renata Kuhnova and Petra Slívová and for man Tomáš Brauner, David Ohlídal, Radek Večeřa and Karel Vrbenský. We came weekend before, to make some training flights in that area. The weather prediction is not so very optimistic, like last month will be a lot of rain. That is why we bring with us also bicycles and ski to enjoy a little the Alps.

The training day was the best flying day here, which is typical for all the competitions. We flow 45 km long training task from Werfenweng. The take off is 1800 m high with cable lift, situated in the middle of valley with beautiful view to all the snow covered mountains. It is also protected by the wind because of the rocks around. We enjoy flight also first task, which was stopped because of the strong wind. The Task was speed run, 42 km long, following valley, direction to the Dachstein. First part was very beautiful and we enjoy flight a lot. Good cooperation, tactic and decisions. The worst part was close the rocks, where was very strong wind with turbulence. Many pilots land there and call to radio Level 3! Which means very danger! After that organization decide stop the task and canceled it, because we did not fly more 1:30 hour. Anyway we survived, also one Ozon glider had broken A lines, but used rescue. In the afternoon came very strong thunderstorm and heavy rain. We were waiting for the transport back in the pub more than 4 hours. Finally we survived with the weissebeer.

The first valid Task we flow at Friday 28.5. We went to the another take off called Trattenberg with large grassy place for all the pilots. The sky was covered with middle clouds, even of that, the thermal was working good. They set 56 km long task along the ridge. It was really fast task with good thermal. Last 20 km we flow only on full speed and try to find good way with thermal. During first 10 minutes are more than 70 pilots in the goal with winner of the task Luc Arman vith 1:12 time fly Ozon. The best from us was 32. Radek Večeřa, from woman 68.Petra, me second 72. Goal was in Abtenau and we lend around 14 h, so we had panty of time in afternoon, using to make some barbecue and celebrate task.

Next day we used to enjoy area a little. We used every occasion for biking and also enjoy local glacier Kaprun to ski there. Good for rehabilitation is local spring and aqua area. It is important to do something, on the other hand we start be crazy. The prediction sad for next few days also bad weather, so it does not look very good for next task. But we still hope!!!
